Throughout most of my life, I’ve been completely perplexed when people have said things like, “Do you see that face in the clouds? What about the cat in the rock?” All I could ever see was clouds, or rocks, or whatever it was they saw something in. Over the last few years, though, I’ve begun to see life in Sandia foothills rocks, even without other folks pointing them out.
That’s exactly what happened when I walked up a trail I noticed for the first time the other evening. It’s kind of a combination of a game trail (I found it while I was chasing some deer), a wash, and a people trail. I followed it up into a sweet little side canyon and turned around when it got too rocky. Coming back down, I saw this critter in the rock. It looks rather reptilian (or even prehistoric) to me. Even though I can’t precisely identify it (beyond “it’s a rock”), I’m pleased that I noticed it on my own.
